2007 will mark Centenary of Scouting. The first Scout camp was run in 1907 by Baden-Powell, on Brownsea Island. At present , there are over 28 millions Scouts, youth and adults, in 216 countries and territories in the World Organization of the Scout Mouvement. By 2007, it is estimated that over 500 million women and men from most of the countries and cultures in the world will have pledged to live by the Scout Promise and Law.
2007, the 100th anniversary of Scouting is an opportunity for us to demonstrate the unique value of Scouting to the world, to celebrate the achievements of Centenary of Scouting. We should celebrate the future of Scouting and look how we can improve it to meet the needs of even more young people, their families and communities world-wide.
The Centenary of Scouting should create among Scouts anf former Scouts a sense of belonging to a world-wide movement (WOSM). The Centenary will be unique occasion for them to communicate with each other and to establish or re-establish contacts both nationally and internationally, thus demonstrating the unity of World Scouting.
The Centenary is an opportunity to obtain greater recognition of our success in the field of non-formal education, in particular the work that we do towards promoting a culture of peace throughout the world and our commitment to nature and the environment.
